In a previous post I covered the establishment of a backup of important data order to find them if something goes wrong (crash hard drive, viruses, etc. ...).
In my case, valuable data were first stored on a separate partition of the operating system. This allows you to format the partition operating system and reinstall if something goes wrong (which never happens under linux, it at least never happened to me in 4 years), without losing important files. Then I set up a regular backup of data on an external disk. Here I protected if I fly my computer on the road in my car for example.
But it remains a weak point: the burglary. Do not be paranoid, it does not happen everyday but when it happens it fucks the Bouboule. And it just happened to someone I know well, who lost valuable documents (several months of work) ...
In the case of burglary, backing up to external hard disk or DVD is not used much since necessarily, unless they are hidden in a safe place, such media may also be embedded by the unscrupulous.
The best solution in this case seems to be the online backup. But it pays, and sometimes quite expensive. There are accommodations to save your data as One Ubuntu (free for 2GB or 10 € / month for 10GB) or Dropbox (free for 2GB or 10 € / month for 50GB) you can also pay you a dedicated server:)
Not that the price is particularly high, but I wondered why not just share a space on its hard drive with his friends so that everyone can make their important files so that they may be encrypted are not legible.
could well find his data with his friends in case of theft. And since most PCs today come with huge hard drives (500GB and up) this should not pose any particular problem. Benefit from the transaction, the data are finally in a safe place and it is entirely free.
So I searched a bit on the side of free software (this is a reflex ...) if there was a tool for this type of operation but I found nothing conclusive (it will surely come, given the interest that is here).
For cons, I stumbled on Wuala. Wuala was a small innovative start-ups to developed a shared backup solution really terrible and has subsequently been acquired by LaCie, the manufacturer of hard disk.
Wuala is a small software compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux (hurray for linux!) That actually allows its data to a safe place to find them if something goes wrong. And just
Wuala offers shared storage (plus a paid solution which allows for more space if you do not want to lend a bit of its hard drive is selfish!).
as I hate to pay and that I have room on my drive, I chose to share. Here's how it works: You
point the folder you want to save. Wuala then encrypts all your files so that only you are able to read them. It encrypts your PC is as important as any of your data will not pass in clear text over the Internet. He then sent into the cloud (known as cloud computing). The cloud is the computers of other users like you share a small space on their hard drive. Weather Files are dispatched around the world in small pieces and safely (no one can read them except you, unless you allow a friend to download them, we shall see later).
Your space flights offered by Wuala is 1GB. If you want more just share a little of your space on your hard (or pay for presses that do not share). You can also earn up to 6GB by inviting your friends to subscribe to this service. This is done simply to enable the sharing option and define how much you want to share. Then a calculation is made according to the time your computer is connected to the Internet (and thus available for other users) to determine how much you are entitled.
A clear interface allows you to manage sharing (since barter exchange, you get more space to store your files) of a portion of your hard drive.
To save your files you have several options:
- Basic Option:
You choose the directory or file to back up and you just upload. It's pretty fast.
- In Pro mode: You
switch to pro if you pay for extra space or if you share enough disk space (and time of connection). In this case it is more convenient because Wuala will automatically save itself and the directories you set, bearing traces the evolution of different files. Very convenient to go back in time and find an older version of a document. To share
correctly and switch to pro will need to configure your router by opening port 7514.
Wuala can also integrate into your office and you will get a new directory on your system where it will be enough to drag your files to backup or share.
Share! the word is dropped. Wuala does because allows not only to store its data reliably. You can also allow access to persons defined (Wuala users of course). For that a simple click and give you access to a file to your friends. The software then takes care to go get the pieces (as in P2P) and then pick them they will be decrypted on the computer of your friends. To download
Wuala is here: http://www.wuala.com/en/download
The site is unfortunately not yet available in French, but it's simple download the program , which is available in French and very simple to use.
Good backup and sharing good;) If I did not ask for it and you know of any other free solutions and even better, "dropped a com" as they say on skyblug.
